Editor’s picks: My favorite staff photos of 2015

When I was first hired as a reporter, the question I most disliked having to answer from my editor was, “What kind of art do you have from the civic meeting? A community meeting can be among the most challenging events to shoot. Often, folks don’t want their picture taken. Everyone else, meanwhile, is staring at you like, “Why are you taking photos of this?” This shot, taken by web editor Paul Squire, is among the best civic photo I’ve ever seen. It was taken at an Orient Association meeting and everyone in attendance was asked if they oppose a plan that could have let to more commercial trucks on North Fork roadways. The overwhelming response could not have been captured any better.
