February may be the shortest month — even with an extra day for leap year — but it’s when I begin to look forward to spring. Presidents Day and Valentine’s Day give us things to celebrate and, if you were born on Feb. 29, it’s a rare opportunity to blow out the candles on your actual birthday. Happy birthday, leap year babies!
Speaking of celebration, the arrival of a baby in the family also gives us reason to be joyful. Laura Sidlauskas and John Barrow welcomed a daughter, Reese Noelle, Dec. 20 in Greenville, N.C. Reese weighed 5 pounds, 11 ounces. Her North Fork grandparents, Debbie and Tom Sidlauskas, are over the moon with happiness.
The following locals kick off February with birthdays. Many happy returns to Jill Wowak, Michael Rolle, EJ Danowski, Emily Gatz, Lucy Senesac, Donald Fahey III, Paul Wilsberg, Billy Young, Adrianna Lawson, Taylor Montgomery, Emily Mincielli, Rebekah Conner, David Martinez and Evan Viola. Special wishes to Miss Isla DiSilvio, who blows out three candles Feb. 6.
Belated birthday wishes go out to Valerie Wowak.
Kait’s Angels has a couple of important events coming up. This Saturday, Feb. 6, from 3 to 10 p.m. is the Yogurt Bowl, with frozen yogurt generously donated by Yogurt Expressions. All proceeds will benefit Danielle Meraz of Southold. A free will donation is requested. Next Friday, Feb. 12, there will be Zumba from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Mattituck High School gym. Admission is $20 for advance online registration at KaitsAngels.org or $25 at the door. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. This is a fun way to combine exercise, the company of your neighbors and supporting a good cause.
Congratulations to Kelly Kraebel, who will soon begin her career at Winthrop Hospital as a physician’s assistant in the cardio-thoracic surgical department. Kelly graduated from Hofstra in December with a master’s in physical assistant studies.
Traditions are important in our lives and Mattituck High School is keeping one of its traditions with this year’s musical, “Fiddler on the Roof.” Performances are tonight, Feb. 4, as well as Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10; children under 12, $5. Come enjoy the musical and add to one of your own traditions.
Last chance! If you have not yet joined the PTSA for this year, you haven’t been entered in the raffle for a free ticket to this year’s fashion show. The drawing is Feb. 10, so visit mufsd.com, follow the link and join today.
