Bette Faye Rightor

Bette Faye Rightor of East Quogue passed on Feb. 9, 2016.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, Feb. 28, 1925, she was the daughter of McKinley Edwards and Betty (Wilson) Edwards. Bette was the wife of Nicholas H. Rightor III for 52 years; the mother of Linda McDaniel (William) and Paula Welch (Robert); grandmother to Paul McDaniel (Laura), Trevor McDaniel (Sarah) and Vanessa Mothes (Richard); and great-grandmother to Maddie and Maren McDaniel and Caleb McDaniel. Bette also leaves her good friend Elfrida von Nardroff.

She graduated from Flushing High School and attended a year at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.

Bette had a lifelong love of bridge and for many years was the director of the Shinnecock Bridge Club, which she started with her friend Linda Ward and continued to direct games for 40 years. She taught bridge to many players as well.

Bette enjoyed tennis, golf and the beach. She was a member of the Surf Club of Quogue for 65 years. She enjoyed games and was a voracious reader. Another passion was cooking; she was always looking for the perfect recipe. She also loved her dogs and cats.

The family received visitors Feb. 12 at Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A brief funeral service was held there on Feb. 13, with interment at the Oakwood Cemetery in East Quogue.
