Richard Kaplan

Richard Kaplan of North White Plains, N.Y., died at White Plains Center for Nursing Care Feb. 26, 2016. He was 90.

He was born in the Bronx July 25, 1925, to Harry and Edith (Blumenfeld) Kaplan.

Richard received his Bachelor of Arts in chemical engineering from City College and a master’s in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan and enjoyed a lengthy career as a chemical engineer.

The longtime White Plains resident spent winters in Highland Beach, Fla., and summered at Woodlands in Mohegan, N.Y. He enjoyed tennis and swimming and was a voracious reader of The New York Times.

Family members recalled how this good family man lived for his grandkids.

Surviving are Richard’s wife, Pearl (née Steiner); a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Skip Schoenhaar of Cutchogue; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Maria of Maryland; six grandchildren, Vikki Schoenhaar, David Schoenhaar, Joseph Kaplan, Julia Kaplan, Stephen Kaplan and Laura Kaplan; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Brendan and Emma Schoenhaar. He was predeceased by his brother, Milton Kaplan.

Services were held Feb. 28 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home by Rabbi Howard Cohen. Interment took place at Cutchogue Cemetery.
