Southold blotter: Woman sees ‘suspicious’ men in surveillance feed

A Greenport man turned himself in to police last Wednesday to face an active bench warrant, Southold Town police said.

Alfredo Argueta-Cortez, 29, had failed to appear for a scheduled court appearance after previously being arrested for driving while intoxicated, police said.

Mr. Argueta-Cortez was arrested in Southold for DWI in December 2014, according to a previous Suffolk Times story. He reportedly turned himself in around 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday at police headquarters.

• A Mattituck woman’s car tires were deflated and one of its tire stems broken Friday afternoon, according to a police report.

The victim’s husband told police that he believed the car — which was parked on Theresa Drive — was damaged by someone “who they have been having ongoing problems with,” according to the report.

Police documented the incident at the victim’s request and will send extra patrols to the area at night.

Later that same day, a Greenport man reported all four of the tires on his BMW had been slashed.

The victim, who lives on Ludlum Place, said the damage occurred sometime before 6 p.m. that day and would cost $1,400 to repair. Police said no cameras were set up in the area and neighbors didn’t see anything.

It does not appear the two incidents are related, police said.

• A Greenport woman said two “suspicious” men were looking through the window of her home on Bay Road Saturday afternoon, police said.

The woman called police about 1 p.m. as she watched the two men through a live feed surveillance system. Three officers were dispatched to the scene but were unable to find the men.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
