Blotter: Woman nabbed at Southold Town Hall on Riverhead warrant

A Greenport woman wanted on a warrant from Riverhead Town Justice Court was caught near Southold Town Hall when a police officer recognized her in the building Friday morning, town police said.

The officer was at Town Hall for an arraignment at around 10:50 a.m. when he saw Alicia Graham inside, according to a police report. The officer remembered Ms. Graham had an active warrant from Riverhead and found her outside Town Hall.

She was arrested and handed over to Riverhead Town police.

• Someone broke into a Greenport home Friday and stole an Apple computer worth $200, according to a police report. The victims told police the burglar stole the iMac computer from their Bailey Avenue home sometime before 9:30 p.m., according to the report.

Detectives were notified and are still investigating the theft, police said.

• A Freeport man twice tried to use stolen credit cards to buy gift cards from convenience stores in Mattituck and Southold last Thursday afternoon, according to a Southold Town police report.

Paul Charles Chery, 26, is facing a felony charge for possession of a forged instrument after police found he was carrying a phony Connecticut ID card, according to the report.

Police were called to the Mattituck 7-Eleven about 3:15 p.m. after Mr. Chery and two other men bought the gift cards. While an officer investigated in Mattituck, another cop found the three men attempting the same scheme at the Southold 7-Eleven, police said.

Officers discovered Mr. Chery was in possession of a fake ID card, as well as three credit cards that weren’t in his name, police said. He was also reportedly carrying a plastic baggie containing marijuana.

All three men were taken to police headquarters to be interviewed, though police only reported that Mr. Chery was arrested. In addition to the felony charge, he was also issued a violation for marijuana possession, police said.

• A Peconic man is accused of using his ex-girlfriend’s cable account to install Optimum service in his home, racking up bills totaling nearly $680, according to a police report filed by the man’s ex-girlfriend.

The Wading River woman told police last Monday that she had lived with the man until last summer, police said. The woman said her ex had used her Optimum account without her knowledge or permission.

Detectives are investigating the allegations.

• Someone took an iPhone worth $750 from an Orient home, according to a police report. The victim told police last Monday the white iPhone 6 Plus was stolen from the residence on Latham Lane.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
