Mattituck News: What parents need to know about heroin, drug use

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! “May the dreams you hold dearest be those which come true; And the kindness you spread keep returning to you.” Spread some Irish laughter and joy today.

We’ve all read and heard about heroin and prescription drug abuse in our communities, but we rarely get the whole story. On Monday, March 28, at 7 p.m. the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District and the Suffolk County and Southold police departments will present “The Ugly Truth: Heroin and Prescription Drug Use: What Parents Need to Know.” Speakers will include Police Chief Martin Flatley, chief county medical examiner Dr. Michael Caplan, SCPD chief surgeon Dr. Scott Coyne and SCPD police academy EMT staff and school resource officer. Narcan administration training will be provided, with home kits available, and expired prescription medications will be collected for disposal. The MHS SAAD Club and North Fork Alliance will also be on hand with information and refreshments. Mark your calendars for this potentially lifesaving discussion.

Many locals celebrate birthdays this month. Many happy returns to Kay Rolle, Kaitlin Graeb, Jackie Wilsberg, Sydney Slotkin, David Radigan, Erin Van Etten, Joey Finora, Addie Feiler, Gina Tyler, Dade LePre, Shelby Davis, Alex Gamberg, Margaret Motto, Skyler Grathwohl, Kevin Gatto, Scott Tyler, Abigail Graeb, Ronnie Fletcher and Georgene Shanahan. A very special birthday wish goes out to my “Mr. Wonderful” on March 26.
