Former Cutchogue resident Jean Peters passed away peacefully March 20 at the age of 90. She is survived by her two children, Chris Peters of North Bellmore and Sue Segre of Raleigh, N.C., and grandchildren Bekah, Auston, Liz and Sandi.

Jean was the dedicated wife of Bill and loving mother and grandmother. Jean and Bill retired in 1980 to live full time in Cutchogue, where they became involved in the community that had served as a summer base since 1964. Jean enjoyed quilting, gardening, fishing, going to the beach and basically all life had to offer.

Jean’s contributions to the community included her volunteer work at Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild, Cutchogue Library and Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council. Jean served as guild president and then treasurer for many years and was instrumental in establishing the guild as a nonprofit organization in 1988. Jean was also frequently found helping out at the annual antiques flea market on the Cutchogue Village Green, at the Cutchogue Library, tending her garden or enjoying the beach with her family.

A memorial service for both Jean and Bill Peters, who died Dec. 25, 2015, will be held in September.

Donations in memory of Jean can be made to the Friends of the Cutchogue New Suffolk Library, P.O. Box 935, Cutchogue NY 11935.
