Lillian M. Andrews
Lillian M. “Lilly” Andrews died peacefully in the company of her family March 24, 2016, in New Suffolk after battling pancreatic cancer. She was 60.
Lilly was born July 15, 1955, to Anthony and Lillian Agoglia in Freeport. She was a 1973 graduate of Half Hollow Hills High School in Dix Hills. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the State University of New York at Brockport in 1977 and her master’s degree from New York University in 1989.
Lilly had a distinguished nursing career in New York City and later on the East End. She held various positions, including nursing coordinator at the dean’s office of the Weill-Cornell Medical Center at New York Hospital. In 1998, she was proudly inducted to the International Honor Society of Nursing.
She met Brian Andrews in New York City in the winter of 1978. They were wed on Sept. 24, 1983, and welcomed a son, Ian, in 1989. The Andrews resided in New York City until 2000, when they moved to New Suffolk. Here, Lilly indulged her passions for the arts, gardening and caring for animals.
A natural athlete, Lilly loved to swim, ski, and sail the Peconic Bay aboard Simpatico with Brian, Ian, and his girlfriend, Erica. She participated enthusiastically in the local community and was a member of the Peconic Bay Sailing Association, the St. Agnes R.C. Church Parish prayer group, and the New Suffolk book club.
Lilly’s handmade Christmas cards, which friends and family always cherished, were a testament to her creative talents, as were the Lady Liberty costumes she would design and wear for the New Suffolk Fourth of July parade each year.
Perhaps the strongest impression Lilly left was on the patients she cared for and their families, who were often touched by her deep personal commitment to their well-being. She will be sorely missed, but those who knew Lilly will never forget her compassion, humility and unique creative touch.
Predeceased by her mother, Lilly is survived by her husband; her son; her father; and her siblings, Diane Lundegaard of Dix Hills, Paul Agoglia of Oneonta, N.Y., Vincent Agoglia of Hauppauge, Virginia “Ginger” Paolino of Douglaston, N.Y., Anthony Agoglia of Fishkill, N.Y., Mary Agoglia of Canaan, N.Y., and Amy Cohen of Ridgefield, Conn.
The family received visitors March 26 and 28 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral Mass celebrated by Father Richard Hoerning took place March 28 at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Cremation was private.
