Linda Margareth Tonyes of Greenport died April 8, 2016, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 56.

Linda was born Oct. 26, 1959, in Brooklyn to Alois and Stefanie (Unegg) Putre and attended St. Pancras School in Glendale. She later received her associate degree in paralegal studies from Suffolk County Community College.

On Oct. 3, 1987, she married Edwin “Ed” Alva Tonyes Jr. and together they made their home in Greenport.

Linda was a paralegal who owned an independent paralegal business. She was a colleague to many local attorneys.

Linda’s free time was spent reading and enjoying nature. She loved pets, especially cats and her dog, Buster, and feeding birds. She also enjoyed traveling on cruises with her husband, trips to New York City and celebrating her heritage.

Her husband said she was an “A+ person.”

Linda is survived by her husband, Ed; her son, Eric C. Tonyes, and her stepdaughter, Christina Tonyes; her sister, Maria E. Zananski, of Bloomingburg, N.Y.; her nieces and nephew, Amanda Diller, Sarah Zananski and Adam Zananski; and a great-niece, Rebecca Diller.

A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, officiated by Father Richard P. Hoerning.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Agnes R.C. Church.
