Greenport News: Another round of happy birthdays

If you’re the parent of a Greenport student, especially at the high school level, I’m forewarning you that early June is going to be a busy time. Mark your calendars now for the following: sports awards, June 1, 6 p.m.; junior-senior high school spring concert, June 2 (rescheduled from May 18); senior scholarship breakfast, June 3, 8:30 a.m. at the Soundview Restaurant; multicultural night, June 7; elementary school spring concert, June 8, 7 p.m.; and academic awards assembly, June 9.

While I’m in school mode, I have a reminder for all parents. Due to parent-teacher conferences, Friday, April 22, will be a half-day for all students. High school students will be dismissed at 10:52 a.m. and elementary students at 11:45 a.m.

The Southold Rotary Club will host a chicken and ribs dinner (with a salmon option) Tuesday, April 26, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Soundview restaurant. Tickets are $25 per person plus gratuity and can be purchased from any Southold Rotarian or at the door. Takeout orders will be available.

Speaking of Rotary, their Greenport counterparts selected senior Bayron Rivas as their Student of the Month for April. Congratulations, Bayron!

Welcome home to Lori and Jeff Dinizio, who have returned from their extended vacation to South Africa. I received videos of a lowland leopard and a lioness, no more than three feet from them, and I can’t wait to hear what else they encountered on their safari.

Happy birthday wishes are being sent to Josh Finno, Sean Heaney and Tiffany Smith on April 22; Chris Gaffga Dinizio and Barbara Davidson on the 23rd; Dedrick Hutley, Amy Pacholk, Bob Wiltse and Linda Wallace on the 24th; Megan Kruszeski, Dave Brandi, Pat Kohl, John Macomber III and John Macomber IV, Estefany Molina and John Foster on the 25th; Kristen Welch and Alethia “Trudi” Ford on the 26th; Shannon Verity Land and Gary Lillis on the 27th; Brandon Padworski, Jim McAllister and Erin Young on the 29th; Claude Kumjian, Josh Horton and Jennifer Costello on the 30th; Christopher Lakowitz Slaght, John Blasko and Camden Wallace on May 1; Jewell Gonzalez and Abaigeal Pacholk on the 2nd; Greg Rhinow, Amy Milovich, Colin Van Tuyl, Karen McLaughlin, Eileen Lellman Getches and Kayleigh Macchirole on the 3rd; and my niece Stephanie Dinizio, Mike Quillin, Joan Moore, Dave Kapell, Deborah Angevine Bondarchuk and Brianna McElroy on the 4th.

Happy anniversary to my nephew Marcus Tooker and his wife, Jaclyn, on April 30 and Suzanne and Curtis Hamilton, whose special day is May 1.
