When Joy Davis attends the Mattituck Strawberry Festival each year, one of her favorite things to do is to get her photo taken with the Strawberry Queen.

On Saturday, it was her turn to wear the crown.

“I grew up coming to this festival my whole life, so it was very surreal when I got crowned because I was always that little girl who wanted to take pictures with the queen,” she said.

The Mattituck Lions Club hosts the annual festival and selects a queen to represent the club at various events throughout the year, including parades and crowning Little Miss and Little Mr. Mattituck.

In addition, the Strawberry Queen is awarded a scholarship.

“This means the world to me,” Joy said. “This community has given me so much, so I am looking forward to finally being able to give back to them.

“This community is such an amazing place that it makes it really difficult to want to leave.”
