Cops: Mattituck man arrested under Leandra’s Law

A Mattituck man driving drunk with two young children in his vehicle was arrested under Leandra’s Law Tuesday night, Southold Town police said.

Diego Galdamez, 31, was driving a 2006 Hummer eastbound on Route 25 about 9:30 p.m. and was stopped for tailgating, running a red light and failing to yield the right of way to oncoming vehicles, police said.

An investigation revealed Mr. Galdamez was intoxicated and he was arrested for DWI under Leandra’s Law, which makes it a felony to drive drunk with a child 15 or under in the car, police said. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, police said.

Police said the two children in the car were 2 and 4 years old.

Mr. Galdamez was transported to police headquarter for processing, police said.
