Baseball: Mustangs oust Ospreys in semifinals

The North Fork Ospreys were ousted from the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League semifinals Sunday as Rob Vani and Phil Capra belted home runs in the Montauk Mustangs’ 10-7 victory at the Montauk School.

Capra (3-for-3) drove in four runs as the third-seeded Mustangs advance to the best-of-three league finals against the top-seeded Westhampton Aviators. Vani went 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring three runs and driving in two.

Bobby Romano and Dan Schock homered for the Ospreys, who were beaten, 13-4, in the first game of the series Saturday night. Teammate Nick Bellafronto went 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a run.

Joseph Broderick was the winning pitcher. He gave up eight hits and seven runs (four earned) over seven innings.

For the second game in a row, the Mustangs staged a six-run rally in the second inning.
