Police release security image of alleged Mattituck purse thieves

Two men accused of swiping a woman’s purse off the hood of her car were caught on camera. And now police are offering an award for information that leads to an arrest.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Southold Town Police Department announced the $5,000 cash reward Monday morning.

According to a police report, the victim left a purple Coach bag on the hood of her car at Magic Fountain on Main Road about 8:20 p.m. last Saturday, when an unknown man in a Dodge pickup truck pulled up next to her vehicle. Two men got out of the truck and went inside the ice cream shop, but when they left, one of the people snatched the bag.

The victim said the purple Coach bag — which was valued at $100 — contained credit cards, an iPhone 6, house keys and identification cards, as well as $300 in cash.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police.
