A visitor to Country View Farm Stand on Main Road in Southold was severely injured Monday after trying to stop a rolling car, Southold Town police said.

The victim, who has not yet been identified by police, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for what Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley described as a “severe leg injury.”

The woman had just left a parked Volkswagen Beetle around 4 p.m. when she and another occupant noticed the car was beginning to roll. She attempted to hop into the vehicle to stop it, but slipped and got her leg stuck under the vehicle, Chief Flatley said.

The other occupant was not injured, police said.

Main Road remained closed at Hobart Road around 5 p.m., police said.
