Cops: After crash, drunk driver returns to scene to tow car

A Southold man with a prior DWI conviction allegedly crashed into a utility pole on Cox Neck Road in Mattituck Sunday night, Southold Town police said.

The driver, Marco Gregorio, 32, allegedly left the scene after the crash about 6:30 p.m., police said. He returned to the scene, where police had already arrived, a short time later with the intent to tow the crashed vehicle from the scene, police said. He allegedly admitted to police he had been driving the car during the accident.

Mr. Gregorio failed several roadside sobriety tests and he was arrested on a felony drunk driving charge, police said. Mr. Gregorio’s vehicle he was driving when he returned to the scene was seized pursuant to Suffolk County law because he had been convicted of DWI on Dec. 12, 2014, police said.

He was transported to police headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.
