A Greenport bicyclist was taken to the hospital Tuesday after he was struck by a vehicle in East Marion, Southold Town police said.

Kenneth Finne, 51, was riding a bicycle around 12:40 p.m. eastbound on Route 25 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by George Fitzpatrick, 74, of Orient, police said in a press release issued Wednesday.

Mr. Finne was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital and later sent to Stony Brook Hospital for treatment, officials said. An update on his condition wasn’t immediately available.

Mr. Fitzpatrick was uninjured, police said.

No charges are expected and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Original story:

A bicyclist suffered “serious” injuries after being struck by an eastbound car on Main Road in East Marion Tuesday afternoon, according to East Marion Fire Department officials.

The bicyclist was transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital. First responders called for a medevac and a Suffolk police helicopter landed at the East Marion Fire Department about 1:15 p.m. But the patient was ultimately transported via ambulance instead to ELIH.

The road is currently open in both directions as police investigate the accident.

More information is expected to be released later today.
