Longtime Greenport resident Ismael M. Santiago died Sept. 25. He was 81.

The son of Julia (Maldonado) and Marcos Santiago, he was born April 9, 1935, in Villalba, Puerto Rico.

Mr. Santiago attended high school and served in the U.S. Army for eight years, achieving the rank of specialist E-4 and receiving a Good Conduct medal.

He was a longtime employee of Claudio’s Restaurant in Greenport.

Family members said Mr. Santiago enjoyed cooking, music and watching the New York Mets.

Predeceased by his sister Zoraida, Mr. Santiago is survived by his sons, Michael O’Brien of Medford, Marc Santiago of Greenport, Ismael Marc Santiago of Cos Cob, Conn., Ismael Jimmy Santiago of Utica and Ronald Ules of Sag Harbor; his daughter, Lisa Santiago, of Plaistow, N.H.; his sister Rosa and six grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Friday Sept. 30, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Cremation will be private.
