Southold Blotter: Greenport man falls victim to immigration scam

A Greenport man reported receiving text messages from someone claiming to be immigration last Tuesday, police said. He then got a phone call saying he needed to pay $2,859.12 or he would be deported, so he sent the money via wire transfer, police said. Officers told him it was a scam and not to send any more money, the report states.
• An Orient couple called police about their neighbor last Tuesday after she reportedly yelled obscenities at them. The couple showed police videos and photographs that displayed the neighbor yelling profanities on more than 42 occasions, officials said. They also said their neighbor has exposed herself to them nude on several occasions, either from her balcony or by standing on a ladder to raise herself over the height of the fence, police said. The Orient couple wished to press charges, police said.

• A Southold man reported that a lawn ornament valued at $75 was stolen from his front yard last Tuesday around 9 a.m., police said.

• The Mattituck post office reported a sign reading “Mattituck Yacht Club” was stolen from the wall where it was hanging inside the building last Monday around 12:45 p.m., police said.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
