Alfred V. Roth

Alfred V. Roth of Mattituck passed away Thursday, May 3. He was 93.

Alfred was born Aug. 15, 1924, in New York City to Bernard and Helen (Trzczchoiska) Roth. He graduated from Brooklyn High School for Specialty Trades in 1943 with the specialty of electrical. In 1943, he entered active duty in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as an aviation electrician. In 1946, he was honorably discharged. In 1947, he was employed by the New York Telephone Company, which in later years became Verizon. He retired in 1983 out of the Riverhead office with 36 years of experience.

In 1948 he married Rose Salvati and together they had three children. He raised his family in Franklin Square, but moved to Mattituck in 1973.

Predeceased by his wife Rose in 2014, he is survived by a brother Paul Roth (Joan) of Pennsylvania; a sister Jean Doering of Florida; his children, Kathryn Brewer (Artie) of Cutchogue, Laura Weber (Wayne) of Hicksville and Michael Roth of California; grandchildren, William Brewer (Nicole) of Cutchogue, Jeffrey Brewer (Cate) of Maryland, Michael Weber of Bayside, Anthony Weber of Plainview and Stephen Weber (Rebecca) of New Jersey and great-grandchildren, Ainsley Brewer, Sidney Brewer and Zachary Weber.

The family will receive visitors Monday, May 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck, officiated by Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt. Interment with U.S. Navy Honors will follow at the Cutchogue Cemetery.

Memorial donations to Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
