Edward J. Wright

3/7/30 – 3/11/21

Edward J. Wright, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a longtime resident of Orient Point, N.Y., died March 11, 2021.

Edward was predeceased by his loving wife, Claire, as well as his sisters, Helene and Adrienne. He was the loving father of Stephen (Deborah), Eileen (Michael), Pamela, Carolyn and Edward (Laura); beloved grandfather of Janice (Gareth), Stephen (Lea), Joseph (Deana), Pami (Mark), Robert (Lauren), Alexa (Matthew), Christina, Peter, Edward, Stephanie and John; beloved great-grandfather of Emlyn, Ava, Eleri, Elana, Evan, Gianna, Rhys, Morgan, Jolie, Rylie, Miles, Cade and Sonny; and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Edward was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Due to his heroic actions on the day of July 17, 1952, Edward was awarded the distinguished Silver Star by the United States Army. He was a decorated NYPD 1st grade detective for 20 years, followed by a career as the chief investigator for the Crime Task Force.

He was the treasurer of Poquatuck Hall and the longtime caretaker of the Orient cemetery.

Ed was a dedicated parishioner of St. Agnes Church in Greenport, where he always attended the Saturday afternoon Mass. What was often heard by his family from neighbors in the Orient community was “We love your dad” and “I’ve never met anyone like him.” A friend to Ed was a friend for life! He will be greatly missed by all.

His family is planning a Celebration of the Life of Ed Wright later this year in Orient. They were assisted by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport (horton-mathie.com).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to Poquatuck Hall, the Wounded Warrior Project or the American Cancer Society.
