James D. Wolbert
James D. Wolbert passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2026. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years Linda Wolbert, parents Howard and Doris Wolbert; uncle Elliot Wolbert; sisters Betty Anne Wolbert and Janet Krudop (Robert) brother-in-law Bill Ruland; daughter-in-law Christine; and granddaughter Leigha.
James was born April 27, 1942 in Greenport, graduated from Mattituck High School in 1960 and worked at Lou’s Service Station. Jim enlisted in the US Marines and served his country in Vietnam for an extended tour before being discharged honorably with the rank of Sargent in 1968. Shortly after being discharged, Jim married the love of his life Linda Krudop in January of 1968 and had three boys, Jonathan, Anthony and Gregory. Jim was an expert mechanic and ran a repair shop and gas station in Mattituck before taking a job with the Department of Motor Vehicles in the consumer complaints division.
Throughout his life Jim worked selflessly to provide for his family ensuring that his children never went to bed hungry and all received a college education. He started West Mill Fuels with Linda in 1984 where he helped manage the business, delivered oil, and maintained/repaired the fleet. Jim retired from the state in 2005 and in 2008 Jim and Linda sold the business and moved to Harpursville, N.Y. where they lived out the remainder of their days enjoying time spent with their children and grandchildren.
James is survived by his three sons Jonathan (Michelle) Wolbert, Anthony Wolbert, and Gregory (Christine-deceased) Wolbert; his brother Howard (Pat) Wolbert; sister Linda Ruland (William -deceased); grandchildren Nicholas, Joshua, Jacob, Madison, Maisilyn and Galian and many nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes there are no calling hours and internment will be with Linda at Kenisco Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y. at a later date yet to be determined.
