Wanda Chester

Longtime Cutchogue resident Wanda Chester died May 16 at her home. She was 75.

She was born in Poland Feb. 27, 1937, to Albert and Berniece (Wan) Sajdlowski and graduated in 1955 from Bulkeley High School in Hartford, Conn. She married Robert J. Chester in Hartford on May 18, 1957, and they lived in Carle Place for 30 years.

Ms. Chester worked in the cosmetics and bridal departments at J.C. Penney in Roosevelt Field and was a member of American Legion Post 1718 Auxiliary in Carle Place.

Relatives said she was devoted to her family and was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a fantastic cook, they said, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home.

Ms. Chester is survived by her husband; her daughters, Diane (Carmine) Arpaia of Cutchogue and Christine (Glenn) Dawson of Carle Place; her son, Robert, of Sea Cliff; her sisters, Josephine Zak of Wethersfield, Conn., and Genevieve Gagnon of Lewiston, Maine; her grandsons, Carmine, Mark and Michael Arpaia; and her granddaughters, Sophie, Alice and Sarah Dawson.

Visiting hours will take place Monday, May 21, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A service will be held Tuesday, May 22, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Cremation will be private.
