Brock Phillip Ruther

Lifelong Greenport resident Brock Phillip Ruther died July 10 at home. He was 37.

Born Nov. 18, 1974, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Joan Cunningham Nockelin and Ronald Ruther, he attended Greenport High School. He was a skilled carpenter and mason.

Brock enjoyed playing his bass, fishing, hunting, playing poker, drawing, writing poems and playing Dungeons & Dragons, but he especially loved being with his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Ashly Ruther of Pueblo, Colo., and Abigail Ruther of Pritchett, Colo.; his son, Raistlin Ruther of Calverton; his siblings, Kimberly Stepnoski (Wayne) of Seven Lakes, N.C., Jean Hughes (Tom) of East Marion and Vanessa Wright (Tom) and Angelique Swann, both of Raeford, N.C.; his mother and father; and eight nephews, three nieces and one great-niece. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Percival and Helen Ruther, and his maternal grandparents, John Cunningham and Eleanor Pollock.

Visiting hours were held July 13 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. Private cremation took place July 14.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
