Jean H. Udell

Longtime Greenport resident Jean H. Udell died July 21 at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, where she had lived for five years. She was 93.

She was born April 8, 1919, to Amy L. (Smith) and Lewis E. Ritchie in Floral Park, N.Y., where she graduated from Sewanhaka High School. She married Clifford V. Udell on Feb. 7, 1942, at Floral Park Methodist Episcopal Church.

Family members said she enjoyed playing the piano, for which she had a natural gift. She took pride in her home, liked to swim and loved spending time with her grandchildren, they said.

Predeceased by her husband in 2004, Ms. Udell is survived by her daughter, Carol J. Hiddink of Greenport, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
