Norman G. Wennagel

Norman G. Wennagel, a retired professor of engineering at the State University of New York Maritime College, died Sunday, Aug. 19, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport. He was 91.

Professor Wennagel, a Bachelor of Science in engineering (naval architecture and marine engineering), is in the Engineering Hall of Fame at SUNY/Maritime College. Honors 2002 Inductee. Professor of Engineering.

He made the complex seem simple and the mysterious obvious.

We are going to celebrate Mr. Wennagel’s life. He lived at Peconic Landing in Greenport at the time of his death. Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport arranged for cremation.

The service will be held Sunday, Sept. 30, from 1 to 5 p.m., with military honors at 4:30 p.m., at Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, N.Y.

Mr. Wennagel’s ashes will remain at the Walk in Love for Jesus Church in North Bellmore, where Mr. Wennagel was the benefactor for the church because he believed in the vision.

Mr. Wennagel loved Paris and he loved to speak French, so every summer vacation he would go to Paris. Mr. Wennagel was a private pilot and he enjoyed flying when he had the time. He also enjoyed going to museums, opera, Broadway plays and ballet dancing.

He was a very devoted son, providing support and care to his mother until passing.

Mr. Wennagel’s survivors are beloved friend Pastor Jeanette Capriola and his nieces, Lynn Barsigian and Barbara Decker.
