Genevieve E. Smith

Longtime Greenport resident Genevieve E. Smith died Sept. 2 at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was 87 years old.

She was born Nov. 2, 1924, in Southold to Bert and Amelia Stepnoski and graduated from high school. She married Sidney R. Smith Jr. in New York City.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker for most of her adult life. She was a devoted mother and wife and very engaged in activities with her children.

Predeceased by her husband in 1988, she is survived by her daughters, Ginny Rowland of Shelter Island, Renée (Ron) Jernick of Viera, Fla., and Tracy E. Smith-Rishe (David) of Greenport; her son, Sidney R. Smith III (Cindy) of Greenport; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visiting hours and a service were held Sept. 5 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport, Father Thomas P. Murray of St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport and Christine Malenda, MhD, officiating. Interment and a service took place Sept. 6 at Calverton National Cemetery, Deacon Bob Dejewski officiating.
