Marjorie Munkenbeck McCall

Marjorie Munkenbeck McCall, who spent all of her 94 summers on the family property overlooking Peconic Bay, died peacefully on Sept. 27, 2012.

Marjorie Munkenbeck McCall

She was a resident of Peconic Landing and Cutchogue.

Marjorie was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on July 6, 1918, to Earle and Helen (Walker) Munkenbeck. She grew up in Park Slope and graduated from Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn and Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.

Marjorie married Adrian (Mac) McCall on Nov. 16, 1940. After four years in Norfolk, Va., while Mac served in the Navy, they moved to Syosset, N.Y., with their young family. An advocate of early education, Marge taught nursery school for several years and was active in the community. It was here that she and Mac made many lifelong friends.

After some years in Birmingham, Ala., Westport, Conn., and Atlanta, Ga., Marjorie and Mac retired in 1978 to the family home on Downs Creek in Cutchogue, which has been in her family since 1910.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Adrian, in 1988 and brother, Russell, in 1996. She is survived by her children, Robert (Cheryl), Russell (Nicola Plimpton) and Carolyn; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Marjorie loved a good game of bridge, believed in the importance of giving back to one’s community and was not one to be indirect. Throughout her life, she had a wide circle of friends and led her life with grace and good humor.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Southold, with interment to follow immediately.

Memorial donations may be made to Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation, 201 Manor Place, Greenport, NY 11944, elih.org, or First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 787, Southold, NY 11971.

Marjorie was a presence for all her 94 years, and she will always be remembered on Peconic Bay.
