Helen Antoinette Moisa

Lifelong Orient resident Helen Antoinette Moisa died at home Oct. 14 surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 years old.

Born Sept. 20, 1917, in Orient to Mary (Protasiewicz) and John Przepiora, she attended Greenport School through 10th grade, when her father died and she left school to help her mother. She married Henry F. Moisa on May 14, 1939, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue and held a reception at St. Agnes Hall in Greenport.

Ms. Moisa worked from 1940 to 1950 as a cook for Orient summer resident Prof. Bender of Princeton University and then until 1960 as a waitress at Mitchell’s Restaurant in Greenport. She received an award for 50 years of dedicated service to the Orient Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and belonged to the Columbiettes and the Orient-East Marion Homemaker’s Association.

She loved taking care of her family and enjoyed baking, canning pickles, making beach plum jelly, sewing and gardening.

Ms. Moisa was predeceased by her father in 1924; her mother and brother, Victor Przepiora, in 1969; her son Thomas on Nov. 2, 2007; and her son-in-law Joseph Faszczewski in 2007. She is survived by her son Eugene (Susan), of Orient; her daughter, Dorothy Faszczewski of Mattituck; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours took place Oct. 16 at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A service was held Oct. 17 at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, Father Tom Murray officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.
