Jean E. Thompson

Jean (Imogene) E. Thompson, a lifelong Southold resident, died peacefully at her home on Nov. 27, 2012. She was 88 years old.

She was born June 5, 1924, in Greenport to Philip and Mildred Dickinson. After graduating from Southold High School, Jean worked at the Greenport Shipyard during World War II and then at the New York Telephone Company in Riverhead. But all she ever really wanted to do was to be a homemaker and a mom.

She loved little children and had a real knack with them. When her own children grew up, Jean became a teacher’s aide at Peconic Elementary School. The job was tailor-made for her. Many grown children still remember her kindnesses and special way with them.

She retired from the Peconic School and enjoyed gardening, shopping and going to the beach with her husband, Bob. She loved yard-saling and a good bargain. Jean could tell a good story with humor and wit. She laughed easily at life’s funny spots. She was great at making a cake for most any occasion or no occasion at all. Jean was a wonderful and loving wife, mom, sister, friend, aunt and nana. We will all miss her greatly.

Jean was predeceased by her baby brother, John; her first husband, Jack Clark; and her husband of 43 years, Bob. She is survived by her brother Wesley (Agnes) Dickinson; her children, Judy Clark of Mattituck and Jay Clark of California; two grandchildren, Justin and Melissa; and four great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where services were conducted by the Rev. George Gaffga. Interment will be at Cutchogue Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice.
