Beloved history teacher Ron McEvoy made a spectacular entrance at Sunday’s graduation.

Greenport High School graduated its 134th class on Sunday where retired history teacher Ron McEvoy made a surprise visit.

In addition to encouraging speeches from students, faculty, and administrators, Mr. McEvoy gave a speech to the graduates and encouraged them to follow their dreams.

Mattituck High School held its 101st commencement exercises at the school gym Saturday morning.

Joining the graduates and their parents at the ceremony were alumni from the class of 1965, among others. More than $107,000 in scholarships were given to the graduating class.

Hundreds of friends and family members of Kaitlyn Doorhy gathered at Osprey’s Dominion in Peconic Friday evening to celebrate her 21st birthday and to raise money for Kait’s Angels, the organization created to honor her life. (more…)

Mattituck Presbyterian Church celebrated its 300th anniversary on Saturday with a party on and around its church grounds. The bash included tours of the church and the cemetery, presentations by local dignitaries and plenty of games for children.

The event also featured live music and a farmers and artisans market.

Celebrations continue with a concert Saturday evening at the church and conclude with Sunday’s services.

Though family and friends have been organizing a fundraiser in memory of the late Michael Brown for years, they decided to switch things up this year, organizing the Miles for Mike 5K Walk/Run, which kicked off today at Greenport High School.

Peconic Landing held its 10th annual May Mile & 5K race in Greenport Saturday morning. The popular race benefits the Greenport Fire Department and highlights Older Americans Month.

Local businesses donated raffle prizes and North Fork Cheer sent a squad of cheerleaders to boost runners’ spirit.  (more…)
