It has been a whale of a high school baseball season for Pierson/Bridgehampton. At the same time, it wasn’t a bad season for Southold, either.

In Southold’s case, it was a matter of entering the season with only three returning players from last year in Luke Hansen, Billy Burns and Joe Hayes. And then, as if that wasn’t enough, the First Settlers lost their first seven games of the season. Somehow, Southold managed to put the pieces together under its new coach, Greg Tulley, and qualify for the playoffs. READ

The Southold High School baseball team turned its regular season around. Now the First Settlers need to turn their playoffs around.

After a rough start to the season, Southold’s young players found their way. The team had won 11 of 14 games going into its Suffolk County Class C Tournament game against Pierson/Bridgehampton on Tuesday. READ

This spring’s rain, which wreaked havoc with the baseball schedule in March and April, put a major damper on a baseball playoff game between Mattituck and Center Moriches on Tuesday afternoon.

Their Suffolk County Class B confrontation at Center Moriches High School was suspended just as the bottom of the third inning was to begin due to wet grounds with the score 2-1 in favor of the host side. Light rain had fallen since the opening pitch. (more…)

It’s been such a long time since the Southold/Greenport high school boys tennis team won a Suffolk County playoff match that no one seems to know when the First Settlers last accomplished the feat.

Not even coach Andrew Sadowski, who has been coaching sports at the school for 25 years, could give an exact date. READ
