Helen Finnigan has dedicated her life to volunteering.
While splitting her time between Connecticut and New York City more than a decade ago, she worked in men’s and women’s prisons, teaching decision-making skills to inmates. She also spent two years in Hong Kong working as a consultant for a Manhattan financial company and found time to volunteer there on her days off. READ

In December, Bill Toedter, a longtime environmental advocate and president of the North Fork Environmental Council, announced he would be stepping down from the position to move to Arizona.

The director’s office at Community Action Southold Town’s two-story headquarters in Greenport is lined with shelves overflowing with toys, books, puzzles and games that will soon be distributed to needy families across the North Fork.
Downstairs, in the nonprofit’s pantry, a fresh shipment of donations from the Greenport IGA has just arrived. Boxes of pasta, soup, frozen food and more cover the floor. (more…)

Community Action Southold Town will hold a food drive Saturday outside local supermarkets. Non-perishable food items will be collected from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Greenport IGA; 9:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Southold IGA; 10 a.m. to noon at King Kullen in Cutchogue; and 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Waldbaum’s in Mattituck.
