One topic has dominated the conversation this week in Greenport: the hometown Porters’ championship journey.

Purple and gold balloons line the streets in front of many businesses. Signs hang outside others urging the boys basketball team success. Patrons at the bar at Andy’s last Saturday kept jotting down the score of Greenport’s Southeast Region championship game as it flashed on the screen, thanks to a Facebook livestream, so they could quickly relay it to anyone who walked in.  READ

Toothbrushes, tissues, ramen noodles, Jolly Ranchers and more were stacked high atop classroom desks at Mattituck High School as a team of nearly 20 students and volunteers worked swiftly to sort each item.

Less than one hour later, 20 boxes were filled and ready to be shipped overseas to a platoon of United States servicemen and -women through Adopt-a-Platoon.  READ

The play-by-play announcer excitedly described the scene with the help of a color commentator by his side, feeding him statistics. Meanwhile, a sideline reporter was combing through the bleachers, searching for an interview. READ

Following the arrest of a 16-year-old Greenport High School student for allegedly taking inappropriate photographs and video of three female victims with his cellphone, superintendent David Gamberg issued a statement Thursday that was posted on the district’s website.
