The mind had trouble believing what the eye was seeing. A halftime look at the scoreboard at Suffolk County Community College’s Brookhaven Gym in Selden showed Greenport High School’s boys basketball team with a mere 12 points. That required a second glance, and then a third and a fourth.
“It really is astonishing,” said Stony Brook coach Mike Hickey.
The Mattituck school board has approved a new seven-year agreement with the district’s non-teaching staff, which carries an annual salary increase of 1.25 percent. READ

Better days are ahead for the Greenport High School boys basketball team. Evidence of that can be seen in a number of places. It can be seen in school gyms throughout Suffolk County. It can be seen on playground courts in the Greenport area. And it can be heard in Ev Corwin’s voice.
At times during the trials and tribulations of last season, Corwin, the Greenport coach, spoke excitedly about the next generation of Porters coming up through the system. A fresh infusion of welcomed young talent will make its way onto the varsity Porters. (more…)
