It was a good day for North Fork soccer squads on Saturday, as both Mattituck and Southold won their respective matches in Coram, as the Tuckers defeated Center Moriches and the First Settlers took down Pierson/Bridgehampton.

Mattituck defeated the Red Devils, 5-1, to claim the Class B crown while Southold won 5-2 over the Whalers to take the Class C title.

Moving forward, Matticuk will play Carle Place on Tuesday and Southold will take on Friends Academy.

It’s Mattituck vs. Center Moriches today. In baseball and softball.

Both teams will play 4 p.m. playoff games today and the baseball team will need a win to keep its season alive. The Tuckers, seeded third in the Class B bracket, will play a rematch of the first round, which the Red Devils won 1-0 Friday. Mattituck pitcher Cameron Burt threw a no-hitter in the loss.

The loss dropped the Tuckers into the loser’s bracket and they bounced back with a win Monday against Babylon. The Tuckers need a win to advance to play top-seeded Southampton in the county finals. The winner of today’s loser’s bracket game would need to beat Southampton twice to win the county title.

Meanwhile, the Mattituck softball team begins its postseason today at Center Moriches. The Tuckers are seeded fourth in Class B and will be up against the top-seeded Red Devils. The Tuckers went 1-1 against the Red Devils this year, falling 7-1 and winning 6-1. Center Moriches is 14-3.

The softball team will live to see another day after a loss, which would drop the Tuckers into the loser’s bracket Thursday against the loser of Babylon and Hampton Bays.

The Tuckers closed out the regular season at home with a 7-1 win over Southampton.

Check back tonight for full coverage from both games.

Correction: An earlier version said the softball team was 0-2 in the regular season against Center Moriches. The Tuckers were 1-1.

The major snowstorm that wrecked havoc with high school sports schedules in Suffolk County has delayed the completion of the boys and girls basketball regular seasons. All that snow, however, didn’t prevent Section XI from going about the business of preparing for the playoffs for those sports. Section XI, the governing body for interscholastic sports in Suffolk, released the boys and girls basketball playoff brackets on Monday.

As expected, Riverhead’s boys team earned a rare home playoff game. The Blue Waves (15-3), received the No. 5 seed in the Suffolk Class AA Tournament and will host No. 12 Longwood (11-6) of League I in a first-round contest on Friday. Riverhead, which last week captured the League III championship, will carry a six-game win streak into the postseason. In the only meeting between the two teams during the regular-season, however, Longwood beat Riverhead, 60-41, in a non-league game on Dec. 8.

The Greenport boys (10-7), who have one regular-season game remaining, will play a familiar opponent in a Suffolk Class C outbracket game Tuesday: Pierson (11-7). The winner of that game will advance to a county final against the top-seeded League VIII champion, Stony Brook (14-3), on Wednesday. Greenport and Pierson split the two regular-season games they played against each other.

Bishop McGann-Mercy (8-10) and Shoreham-Wading River (9-9) failed to qualify for the playoffs.

In girls basketball, No. 7 Riverhead (11-7) will host No. 10 Half Hollow Hills East (11-6) in a Suffolk Class AA first-round matchup on Thursday. While the Blue Waves have dropped their last two games, Hills East had won three of its last four.

Shoreham-Wading River (14-4) not only won its first league championship in 11 years last Thursday when it defeated Elwood/John Glenn in a double-overtime thriller, but it also secured the No. 2 seed in the Suffolk Class A Tournament. The Wildcats will play in a semifinal at home next Tuesday against the winner of Friday’s outbracket game between No. 3 Elwood/John Glenn (16-2) and No. 6 Sayville (11-7).

If No. 3 Mattituck (11-7) is to win a Suffolk Class B title, it will have to get past No. 2 Center Moriches (11-4), something the Tuckers weren’t able to do during the regular season. The two League VII teams will play in a Suffolk Class B outbracket game on Friday night in Center Moriches. The Red Devils defeated Mattituck by 8 and 20 points during the regular season. The reward for the winner of Friday night’s game will be a place in next Tuesday night’s county Class B final against Southampton (14-3), the League VII champion.

No. 3 Southold (9-6) will face No. 2 Port Jefferson (10-7) in a Suffolk Class C semifinal on Wednesday. Those teams beat each other once earlier this season.

McGann-Mercy (0-17) will sit out the playoffs.

The high school sports playoffs will have to wait one more day. Playoff games scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed due to the impending Nor’easter expected to hit the area.

An already tight schedule becomes even more cramped now as Section XI must reschedule a bevy of games. With the state tournaments already set, it leaves little wiggle room now for all the games to be completed before those tournaments. The Section XI brackets were not updated as of Tuesday night, but most games would likely be Thursday assuming the weather is fine by then.

The cross country state qualifier is now canceled and the results from the division championship will be used to determine which teams and runners go to the state meet this weekend. Check back for a breakdown of which local runners will advance.

The high school sports season will resume Wednesday after more than a week off following Hurricane Sandy.

Here are the games scheduled for local teams:

Boys Soccer

Wednesday, Nov. 7

The top-seeded Mattituck Tuckers will play at 2 p.m. at home against No. 4 Southampton in the Class B semifinals. At the same time, No. 2 Southold in Class C will host No. 3 Greenport/Shelter Island. The winners in both games advance to the county finals the next day at Diamond in the Pines.

Girls Soccer

The No. 3 seed Mattituck Tuckers will travel to No. 2 Babylon at 2 p.m. for a chance to advance into the Class B county finals against No. 1 Center Moriches, which received a bye. That game will be Thursday at a location to be determined.

Cross Country

Update (12:40 p.m.): The Section XI state qualifier meet is back at Sunken Meadow now  at 1 p.m. Wednesday as the park has been reopened. It had been changed to Sachem East High School, as this post originally stated earlier.

The top 10 teams in each class compete. If the meet gets canceled because of bad weather that may come in Wednesday, there will be no makeup. Results from the division championship will advance teams into the state meet.

Other sections around New York are in a similar situation.

GARRET MEADE FILE PHOTO | Kaan Ilgin and the Mattituck boys soccer team will have to wait a little longer for their first playoff game.

All high school sports in Suffolk County have been postponed through Saturday  — including football playoffs that were scheduled to begin Friday night, Section XI announced Thursday morning.

Exact dates for games are still to be determined and more information will be available Friday.

Many schools across the county are closed through the end of the week, making it nearly impossible to coordinate scheduling of any games. Boys soccer playoffs were supposed to begin Wednesday with Mattituck hosting Southampton and Southold facing Greenport. The Mattituck girls soccer team was scheduled to play Friday at Babylon.

The cross country county championship originally scheduled for Friday may have to be moved to a different location. Sunken Meadow State Park may not be accessible due to many down trees, according to an e-mail sent by Tony Toro, the cross country girls coordinator. Section XI will determine the date and location.
