As 2016 draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on all the changes that took place at local schools over the past 12 months. The Suffolk Times sat down with Anne Smith, superintendent of the Mattituck-Cutchogue School District, and David Gamberg, shared superintendent of the Southold and Greenport school districts, to discuss the past year, which included school garden expansions, the introduction of Project Fit and increased security measures.

Southold school board

Southold School District administrative staff participated in a roundtable discussion with Board of Education members and Superintendent David Gamberg at last week’s regular board meeting.

The dialogue focused on what’s happening this school year as well as goals for the future.

You’d have to go back more than 25 years to find the last time a budget was rejected by voters in the Greenport School District.

But with administrators proposing the second largest tax levy percentage increase in Suffolk County, there was a wave of uncertainty surrounding the district heading into Tuesday’s budget vote.

Then they announced the results, and like just about every year, the spending plan was approved by a wide margin.  READ
