Mattituck-Laurel

Sharing traditions with the younger generation is something Mattituck High School takes pride in. With graduation only a couple of months away, it’s important to mark one of the oldest MHS traditions by inviting the class of 25 years ago to attend this year’s commencement exercises on June 26. This year seats will be reserved for the Class of 1985. Watching these alumni stand to be recognized each year is a highlight of the ceremony.

Congratulations to Tom and Bobbie MacLeod, formerly of Mattituck, and Garret and Barbara Moore of Jamesport on the birth of granddaughter Braedyn Julieanne MacLeod. She was welcomed by her parents, Jim and Cindey MacLeod of Jamesport, on Feb. 18. Barbara, who is co-manager of children’s and parenting services at Mattituck-Laurel Library, also welcomed a grandson Feb. 25 when her son Garrett and his wife, Amanda, welcomed Grady LaRue Moore. May both babies’ lives be full of love and sunshine today and always.

Speaking of babies, the library offers incredible programs for our littlest residents. Baby’s Rhyme Time, one of the most popular, will be held Wednesdays, April 21-May 5 from 11 to 11:20 a.m. for children up to 12 months with a caregiver. Activities include Mother Goose rhymes, puppets, finger plays, action songs and flannel board fun. Call 298-3814, ext. 4, to register.

Raising a family can be daunting at times so Cornell Cooperative Extension wants to give you tools to help make your job easier and more rewarding. On Thursday, April 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. educator Dinah Castro will offer a workshop on “The Family Table.” She will discuss the benefits of family mealtimes and why gathering the family together can make such an important difference in the lives of your children. The cost is $5. For more information, call 727-7850, ext. 340.

These are the only times tickets will be available.

If you drive by The Gardens on Main Road in Laurel, you may spot a familiar face. Torie Cande is following in the family footsteps with her passion for perennials, succulents and other beautiful flowers and plants and is offering all of these and more at this Beds and Borders retail location. Torie is currently in school to learn more about horticulture and said it is like learning another language. Best of luck.
