Southold Boy Scout Troop 6 member Ryan Mazzei, 17, of Peconic plants sea grass at the edge of the Town Beach parking area on North Road in Southold as part of his project to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

One of the big “draws” to our area is the water. Beautiful, serene, refreshing, tranquil and lately, problematic. It’ll be a while before many of us find the sound of flowing water relaxing!

As an EMT and firefighter, my husband, Bill, is usually on the scene assisting others, but when our basement flooded, we were among those requiring the services of the Southold Fire Department. A great crew showed up and helped us stay afloat. Thanks so much!

You cannot get away with anything in this town: Before the fire department arrived at our house to pump out the water, I frantically headed to a local plumbing supply store to purchase another pump. Wouldn’t you know a photographer snapped me going a little too quickly through the streets of Greenport, landing me on last week’s front cover of this newspaper. Sorry if I splashed!

Southold Free Library’s ‘Books for Babies’ program is a wonderful gift idea for newborns. You’ll receive a board book and magnetic photo frame in a drawstring bag. A decorative bookplate will be placed in a picture book that will then be added to the children’s book room. It’s a wonderful start to a lifetime of reading.

Ann Hallock Currie-Bell was an avid collector of dolls. Her collection will be on display at the Mayne Gallery of the Southold Historical Society from April 17 through May 30. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 p.m. and by appointment.

The Southold Rotary Club’s annual chicken dinner will be held Wednesday, April 21, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Soundview. Tickets are $18 (gratuity not included) and can be purchased from any Rotarian or at the door. Proceeds will benefit ELIH, local scholarships, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck and other worthy organizations.

Southold summer residents Peter and Jeannette Prostowich expanded their home by two feet with the Feb. 10 arrival of Talia Rose, who weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces. She will soon be enjoying the North Fork as much as her parents do.

Belated happy birthday to Tommy Surozenski, who turned 19 on April 3, and happy birthday wishes to Jessica Benedicto, who has her special day on the 14th.

Congratulations to former Southold resident Mike Wheeler and the rest of the Joe Gibbs Racing team on driver Denny Hamlin’s recent win in Martinsville, Va. Mike enjoyed a rare week off for Easter (and Denny’s knee surgery) but NASCAR action continues this Saturday in Phoenix.
