WORTH NOTING

A 5K race and a May Mile fitness walk will mark Peconic Landing’s fifth annual celebration of Older Americans Month on Saturday, May 8.

Registration and stretching will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by welcome and announcements at 9:45 and the race and fitness walk at 10. The entry fee for the 5K race is $20 in advance; $25 the day of the race. The May Mile walk around Peconic Landing’s campus in Greenport costs $10 per adult; $5 for children 12 and under or persons 55 and older. Net proceeds will benefit the Greenport Fire Department.

After the races, Suffolk County Legislator Ed Romaine will receive the Older Americans Champion award, and Bobby “Bojack” Jackson, retired New York Jets defensive back, will make an appearance. Other events for participants include live music, safety demonstrations by the Greenport Fire Department and a barbecue lunch.
