Maria G. Xefos

Maria G. Xefos of East Marion died at her home early Wednesday, March 31. She was 89 years old.

Mrs. Xefos was born in Mytilini, Greece, on Nov. 21, 1920, to George and Anna (nà e Pamias) Makras. On Feb. 19, 1949, she married Emanuel Xefos at the Greek Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Manhattan.

For 44 years, she was a secretary and office manager for the publishing company Hastings House.

Formerly of Sunnyside, Queens, she lived in East Marion since 1980 and was a member of Sts. Anargyroi, Taxiarhis and Gerasimos Greek Orthodox Church in Greenport.

Predeceased by her husband, she is survived by loving friends Georgia Tsismenakis, Artemios and Stella Tsismenakis and family, and Sofia and Michael Antoniadis.

Calling hours were held Monday, April 5, at Defriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where Trisagion services were held that evening. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Father Gerasimos Ballas on Tuesday, April 6, at Sts. Anargyroi, Taxiarhis and Gerasimos Church. Interment was at East Marion Cemetery.
