Harry Bondarchuk

Harry Bondarchuk died on Tuesday, May 11, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport with his wife of over 53 years, Marie Ellen, at his side. He was 76 years old.

He was born at Eastern Long Island Hospital to Ivan (John) and Johaska (Jenny) (Adamiak) Bondarchuk on Oct. 14, 1933. After graduating from Greenport High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1955.

He married Marie (Mary) Ellen Brennan on Oct. 13, 1956, at St. Peter of Alcantara Church in Port Washington, and together they made their home in Greenport and raised two children.

Mr. Bondarchuk worked for Johnson Controls Inc. for 45 years and belonged to Plumbers Local No. 200. He was a member of Standard Hose Company of the Greenport Fire Department for over 52 years. He enjoyed spending time clamming and crabbing in local waters and his hobbies included building model airplanes, cooking, gardening and flying.

Mr. Bondarchuk was predeceased by his brothers James, Peter, Dimitri, Frank and Walter and a sister, Anne Klotz. He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Donna M. Dunne of Southold, and son, Michael, of Evergreen, Colo., and their respective spouses, Edward and Joan; and his loving grandchildren, Timothy, John and Brianna. Mr. Bondarchuk is also survived by his sister Helen Keller of Springfield, Pa., and brothers, John and Constantine, both of Orient, and Alexander, of Southold; his sister-in-law, Suzanne Park of Arizona, and brothers-in-law, Robert Worrell of Florida and John Worrell of Texas and their spouses, along with over 60 nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation took place on Friday evening, May 14, at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport, with firematic services. A prayer service was offered by Father Thomas Murray of St. Agnes R.C. Church, Greenport, at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home on Saturday, May 15, at 11 a.m. A Firemen’s Funeral Procession led to interment with military honors at St. Agnes Cemetery.
