* Cherlyn Pope of Greenport has been named employee of the month for April at San Simeon by the Sound Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Ms. Pope works the overnight shift from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., spending her days caring for her grandchildren and a niece and nephew. She has worked at San Simeon for 21 years and is a certified nursing assistant and a graduate of Greenport High School.

* Gov. David Paterson proclaimed May 12 as Health Care Auxilian Day, recognizing volunteers who donate more than five million hours of service to health care facilities in the state. At Eastern Long Island Hospital, auxilians raised $346,000 and contributed more than 30,000 hours of service in the past year. They operate the hospital gift shop, the Opportunity Shop on Main Street in Greenport and hold countless fundraising events throughout the year, according to a statement from hospital spokeswoman Eileen Solomon.

* Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library will hold a CPR certification program from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16. There’s a $25 charge. Call 734-6360.

The library will host a series on meditation for stress management beginning Monday, May 17, and continuing on Mondays through June 21, except for May 31, which is Memorial Day. Sessions are at 1 p.m. Call 734-6360.

* Mattituck-Laurel Library will offer free health insurance counseling on an individual basis between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 18. Call 298-4134 for an appointment.

A technologist from the Southampton Sleep Center will speak on sleep apnea and other sleeping disorders at the library on Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m. Call 298-4134.

A nurse practitioner and aroma therapist will discuss the properties of therapeutic grade essential oils and aromatherapy at the library from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, May 17.
