If you have ever taken the Sea Jet to Mohegan Sun, you know you always head over there hoping to be lucky. Stephanie Anne Wacik must have been holding a lucky charm on May 1 when she and her boyfriend, Michael Miller, headed to Connecticut, because while on the boat, Michael proposed. Best wishes to the happy couple.

I ran into Dick Brooks at school this week and he shared a small-town story. Dick and Sharon Brooks’ son-in-law, Lloyd Hey, is an orthopedic surgeon at Raleigh-Duke Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. When Dr. Hey performs surgery on children, it is required that he have a pediatrician present. As it so happens, on his latest surgery the attending pediatrician turned out to be Angelo Millazo, a Mattituck graduate whose mom, Marie, worked for years in the high school guidance office and whose dad was my favorite produce manager at the old A&P. Both Dick and Sharon worked as teachers in Mattituck before retiring and knew the Millazos for years. Small world!

On the subject of Mattituck graduates, Amy (a MHS graduate) and Charlie Carman just welcomed their first child, daughter Zoe Reese, on April 29 at 1:04 a.m. Zoe was a healthy 8 lbs., 1 oz. This is the third granddaughter for Kareann and Mark Volinski in six months. All three of their daughters have given birth to their first children, and they are all girls! Congratulations and God bless Zoe and her two cousins!

The North Fork Community Theatre will be hosting a Yard Sale on June 5 (rain date June 6), 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the theater. Come support this wonderful venue!

Happy birthday will be sung this week to: Steve Cook and Ned Baker, who blow out their candles today; Megan Bundrick on the 16th; Amy Martinez and Lori Burden on the 17th; and Courtney Italia on the 18th.

Get-well wishes go out to Paul Murphy, who is recovering from a fall at Peconic Bay Medical Center. Thoughts and prayers are with you for a quick recovery.

Local nurseries were buzzing this weekend with Mother’s Day shoppers, so it was no surprise I ran into someone I knew. Sue and John Stype shared the news of their daughter Annie’s graduation from Villanova this week. To add to such a milestone, Anne got a job in Atlanta, Ga., and got engaged! Congratulations and best of luck in your new job!

Members of the MHS Class of 2010, along with Principal Shawn Petretti, attended the Senior to Senior Prom last week at the Human Resource Center in Mattituck. The king and queen were Kyle Black and Carly Manwaring. From a conga line to just good old conversation, this cross-generational experience was fun for all involved!
