Renee T. Pelletier

Renee Therese Pelletier, 57, beloved mother of Michelle Pelletier, died Thursday, April 29, at her home in Greenport after a valiant battle with cancer.

Raised in Levittown and Westmeadow Beach in Stony Brook, Renee graduated as a registered nurse from Pace College and began an extraordinary life journey.

She was an adventurer and accomplished sailor, sailing cross Atlantic to Europe, Portugal and Africa, making her home in the British Virgin Islands and then the Dominican Republic. (She later returned to the Dominican Republic as part of a humanitarian effort in 2009.)

Renee returned to the East End of Long Island and to her true calling, that of a gifted nurse and devoted mother. She ended her long nursing career as clinical care coordinator at the John T. Foley Skilled Nursing Facility in Yaphank.

In addition to her daughter, Michelle, Renee Pelletier is survived by her husband, Charles Columbo; her stepson, Gary Mancuso; her siblings, Jeanne Cooper of Greenport, Michelle Pelletier of Flordia and Anthony Pelletier of California; and four nieces and two nephews, Lisa and Michael Cooper, Kelly and Kaitlin Sicotakis and Sophia and Joshua Pelletier.

Renee was predeceased by her mother, Lois Hohenrath, and stepfather, William Hohenrath.

Donations may be sent to North Fork Breast Health Coalition, P.O. Box 523, Riverhead NY 11901.

A memorial is planned for June.
