After all these years, there seems to be some confusion about my e-mail address. I looked it up in the paper and if I didn’t know it, I’d be confused, too. I think it’s the new typeface. Anyway, my e-mail is [email protected] Broken down, that’s Lucky, then the number 1, then “in NY,” — Lucky One in NY. I hope that clears things up; as I’d hate to miss an important event or news that someone wants to see in this column.

The North Fork Ospreys are flying in from across the country. We still need a few host families to provide rooms for aspiring college baseball players during June and July. You need not provide transportation or meals, just a bed and bath. If you can help, call Joe Finora at 298-4086 or Brian Hansen at 631-553-3940. Last year the Ospreys provided free family entertainment, competitive baseball and free clinics for youngsters.

Advance copies of a new novel by Steve Burt (GHS Class of 1967) are out this month, direct from the author, but won’t hit bookstores until July. “FreeK Camp: Psychic Teens in a Paranormal Thriller” has already been recommended for the New York Book Festival Award as the year’s best teen beach book. You can read about Steve and his other award-winning books at

Michelle Hooten and Richard Langhorne are pleased to announce the arrival of their daughter, Diondra Dominque Ruth, born April 19 weighing seven pounds, eight ounces. She’s now resting comfortably at home under the watchful eyes of her big sisters Danielle and Dayna and big brother, Dominick.

My sincerest sympathies go out to MarieEllen Bondarchuk and her children, Donna and Mike, on the passing of her husband and their dad, Harry.

The Friends of Floyd Memorial Library are in the midst of their annual membership drive. Forms for individuals and families are available at the library desk. All membership monies are spent on library programs, including the popular children’s summer program they’ve sponsored for many years. The Friends are also raffling a beautiful lap quilt in hues of red and beige. It was made by a Friends member and is on display at the library. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three for $5. The winning ticket will be drawn in August.

Memorial Day will soon be upon us. I’d like to remind everyone about the beautiful dockside ceremony put on by the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. The parade will begin in the Adams Street parking lot at 8 a.m. and proceed to the railroad dock, where memorial services will be held.

The Cub Scouts of Pack 51 celebrated their advancement at the annual Blue and Gold Dinner on May 15. Christian Cusati, Johnathan Finne, Ryan Deerkoski and Billy Donohue received their Wolf badges; Adam Ilgin, Ian Thompson, Charles Staples, David Jenkins, John Wright and Johnathan Montgomery-Medina won their Bear badges; and Jacob Mazzaferro was awarded the Bobcat badge. Pack committee chairperson Midge Melrose received a plaque for 25 years of service to Cub Scouting. Congratulations to all!

Celebrating birthdays this week are Adrienne McCracken (granddaughter of my next-door neighbor, Ann Stanilaus), Rebekka Peterson, Abe DeJesus and Elijah Krause on the 22nd; Dale Ryan, Theresa Pringle and Christopher Doucett (who turns 4) on the 23rd; Emma Marshall on the 24th; Ricky Jensen on the 25th; and Jackie LePre on the 26th.

I’m really hoping Lisa and Rich Israel, who celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary May 24, and Shirley and Bruce Sieverman, whose 26th is May 26th, will all have a most spectacular day.
