Henry W. Burden

Former Orient resident Henry W. Burden of Palm Beach Shores, Fla., died May 7 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla. He was 84.

He was born in Queens, N.Y., the son of Walter H. and Alice May O’Brien Burden.

He served proudly in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was a co-founder of East End Supply Co. Inc. in Greenport. Mr. Burden was active in community affairs and the Oysterponds Chemical Co., Oysterponds Rod and Gun Club, Southold Town Baymen’s Association, Chinese, Orient and Greenport Yacht Clubs and American Legion Post 803. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church in Riviera Beach, Fla.

Predeceased by his wives, Lucinda and Margaret, he is survived by his sons, Marcus, of Mattituck, and Howard, of Palm Beach Shores; a daughter, Sandra, of Orient; a sister, Mary Cleo, also of Orient; six grandsons; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at St. Francis of Assisi on May 11. Arrangements were made by Northwood Funeral home of West Palm Beach.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Orient Fire Department Rescue Squad.
