Father’s Day is this Sunday and if you’re looking for something to do with your dad, why not bring him to this year’s Strawberry Festival? Strawberry shortcake and daiquiris are only two reasons Dad will have a good time, so why not spend time with your dad while supporting the Mattituck Lions. Happy Father’s Day!

Congratulations to Madaline Burlingame, who received this year’s Teeny Award as “Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy,” and Sarah Conlin, who was recognized for “Outstanding Performance in a Comedy.” Both appeared in the MHS production of “The Curious Savage.”

A big round of applause goes to the Class of 2010 for dedicating this year’s yearbook to custodian Rodney Shelby. What a perfect choice!

It’s yard sale season and there are two coming up that are worth mentioning. Maureen’s Haven will host a yard sale on July 3 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel’s parking lot. You may drop off donations (no clothing, please!) after 3 p.m. on the 2nd or after 7 a.m. on the 3rd. There promises to be something for everyone.

The Browers Woods Association will host its annual yard sale at the Anchorage on June 26, starting at 8 a.m. In addition, homeowners who have too many treasures to transport will be selling at their individual homes. Drop by and find your perfect buy!

When my daughter was young and I didn’t know anyone in the neighborhood, Mattituck-Laurel Library’s summer programs opened my life to good friends and all the benefits of being involved in the library. The library is once again ready to welcome everyone in an effort to keep our kids engaged in fun activities throughout the summer. Sign-ups for the children’s summer programs and reading club will take place Thursday, July 1. In-person registration is required.

Birthday balloons will be flying at the homes of Jean Mahoney, Taylor DiVello and Addie Capello today, June 17; Angelo LoBue, Ryan Poole, Dallas Dodge and Jordan Viola on the 18th; Steve Sweeney on the 19th; Scott Smith on the 20th; Ray Nine and Alexis Burns on the 22nd; and Daniel Brisotti on the 23rd.

The East End Riders, a local motorcycle club, held a pig roast fundraiser at Four Doors Down in Mattituck this past Saturday. It was an all-ages event to benefit Spencer Shea, a Riverhead High School student who suffered massive injuries in a car accident right around the new year. There was a motorcycle run from Four Doors in a loop around the North and South forks, then a barbecue back at the restaurant, where Tidal Groove played great music. The event raised $7,000. Bravo to all who gave their time and donations to help Spencer!
