What glorious weather we’re having. As summer’s number one fan, you know I’m enjoying the heat — and even the humidity.

Congratulations to former Greenporter (the Rev.) Steve Burt, whose newest novel, “FreeK Camp,” won the 2010 Teen Beach Book of the Year Award. Way to go, Steve!

Congratulations are also in order for Payge Corazzini, daughter of RuthAnne and P.J., who competed last Thursday in the baton-twirling regionals in Pennsylvania. Not only did her team, the Clarkettes, qualify for nationals, but Payge qualified to compete there individually as well. All in all, I’d say she had a pretty good day. Payge’s sister, Blayr, is also a twirler and belongs to a team that won the Northeast regional grand championship. RuthAnne and P. J. have a lot of be proud of this week.

More congratulations go to Christine Harrison, who oversaw the collection and distribution of senior class scholarships this past Friday in her position as secretary to the high school principal. Our community’s generosity truly amazes me and, on behalf of the school, I thank you all for so graciously donating your time and funds to help further the education of so many of our graduates.

Jacky Rosa and Scott Anderson are pleased to announce the arrival of their son, Scott Carlos-Charles Anderson, on June 2, weighing five pounds, 14 ounces. Bragging rights to this little bundle of joy belong to his big sister, Emmas, and well as his grandparents, Lisa and Mario Rosa of Peconic and Janet and Charlie Anderson of Mattituck.

The Greenporter Rosà Festival is just around the corner. It will be held poolside at the Greenporter Hotel on Thursday, June 17, from 6-9 p.m. (rain date: Sunday, June 20). All proceeds benefit the East End Student Film Project supporting the creative young minds on the North Fork. Participating wineries include Lieb Family Cellars, Bedell, Corey Creek, Comtesse Thà rîse, Croteaux, Laurel Lake, Martha Clara, Peconic Bay, Pindar, Raphael and Sparkling Pointe. The Greenport Fire Department’s annual fallen firefighter memorial takes place Sunday, June 13, at 7 p.m. at Fire Station No.1 on Third Street and will begin at 7 p.m.
